The school's theatre, in all its cavernous, dusty majesty. There was something about theatres, actually about all stages, in that no matter how new or well maintained they were, a good theatre would always be dusty. This was the way it seemed to Abraham, who measured the value of a performing area in how many disused props were stacked and tangled in the wings of the stage.
The teenager wandered into the room, which was dimly lit and warm in the Autumn day that was in full flow outside. In that unique way of his, he meandered between the seats in the room, his arms half raised at the elbows and his eyes distant but alert, which made him look like a sleepwalker who was looking for something. Every now and then he would stop, turn around on the spot, perhaps look at the ceiling or the floor, and mutter something, before continuing on.
Abe appreciated the dramatic arts. It was a form of mysticism, he decided. It was a business founded entirely upon people pretending to be somebody they weren't, and wasn't that something they were warned against doing every day? It was a spectacular irony that the school, which was a place where strange people could be themselves, saw so many performances here.
However Abe was hardly here today to perform. He drifted up to the cramped room at the end of the space in which controls for the lights were set. He peered at the switches and levers with a blank expression, so that it was impossible to tell if he was clueless or well informed. Apparently the latter, as, after a moment or two, he flipped a couple of switches and lights blazed on, flooding the stage. Observing this through the window, he carefully selected a button and pressed it. The lights swiveled and dimmed just a little, so as not to be so blaring. He clicked one more switch and filters slid into place over the bulbs, turning the lights a calming but somehow alien blue.
"Lovely..." He murmured, and left the control room, walking that strange walk of his that was somehow a half-run, half-walk and half-hover toward the now blue stage.
Once stood before it, he looked at it from side to side, as though measuring the length of the space. Then he pressed with his hands on the top of the surface, heaving himself over the edge of the stage and flopping momentarily like a fish out of water before regaining his balance. He stood up, turned to look at the empty seats from the point of view that performers enjoyed.
Then he looked to the floor of the stage, turned on the spot twice and laid down on his side, facing upstage. He laid curled up in a sort of fetal position. He began to slow his breathing. His mind began to drift...
A noise that was very much real-world snapped him out of his concentration. Without moving his body, he twisted his head as much as he could to try and see who had disturbed his peace in the theatre.

- - - - - - - - - - - -Quiet, this place was so distantly placed and sound proofed it left one feeling secure and alone all at the same time. Perfection, that's what it was. People came here to perform and hopefully make something of themselves and feel somewhat normal, they could ignore their little gifts and just be a normal human for brief shining moments beofre shows ended and they were once again left being one of the side shows at the circus. Such a shame really. Those who were able to sit back and watch these performances being placed before them could also forget their curses by being swept up in a fake little lie bouncing and shuddering before them.
Haven had ducked within welcoming depths after classes and sank into one of the chairs, a sigh of complete and utter contentment releasing from lungs while purse shifted to the seat next to her. The hum of so many people within schools halls and all the mindless chatter was just grinding on her nerves today and this was the perfect escape. Smallest of smiles lifted lips while she glanced around, she would never grace that stage, or any stage in reality. Standing in front of large crowds agitated her anxiety and she just couldn't do it, but she had an appreciation for those who could. Once upon a time she had that dream to be a huge star like every little young mindless girl but now she was left with no idea with what she wanted in life. That stupid dream was something she wished she could return to but knew well enough she couldn't.
Ear buds slipped within her ears and she sank back, flowing hums and rhythms soothing her into oblivion while eyes drifted closed and she was released from this whole place for even the smallest of time measurements. Mind fluttered into out places while being just sat in place unmoving and breathing in soft compliments to the music drumming silently to outer world.
Time barely slipped by when eyes shot back open as lighting shifted upon closed lids causing her to sink low within seat and glance around in confusion. Brief flashes of movement drifted within upper stage as spotlights blinked on and a boy placed himself on the stage with a sudden appearance. At this point she was like a deer standing in headlights unsure of what to do. She felt like she disturbing someones private moment and was even more disturbed when the boy just curled up upon stage as if it were nothing out of the ordinary.
Speechless and unsure stunned visions looked to doorways leading out of the theater and she slowly got to heeled feet, going a quietly as possible until fumbling hands went to grab her purse and her quiet escape was clearly shot to hell. A wince creased features while her ipod hit the floor with a clatter, ripping buds from ears and sending her into a small panic as she bent to pick it up and snatched a glance at stage where her ungraceful exit obviously had been detected by the unknown boy.
"Shit, i-i'm so sorry." She began stuttering out loud enough for mystery person to hear.
"I was just trying to leave as to not interrupt your... what ever you were doing. I am so sorry. I didn't mean to intrude. Just was looking for quiet and i just screwed yours all up." She began babbling, a small gift of hers as she always seemed to foam from the mouth with words when she was in a good mood or thrown off.
Anxious and embarrassed hands smoothed over her skirt as she just stood there trapped within a sea of seats, sheepish smile still worried and feeling out of place smeared over lips while curled hair slipped to cover half of her face, a hiding mechanism that was useless but made her feel a hell of a lot better, it was like the less she could see then the less others looking at her could see.
"I'll be on my way, sorry again." she mumbled quickly and began slinking her way out of her row towards the exit, heels clicking distinctly upon floors causing her to wince every time. Yeah, she was definitely screwing up this poor kids time alone.

With the blue lights shining in his eyes, all Abe could see from the stage was a shadowy figure in the audience. While he listened to the apology she (the voice was clearly female) offered, his face remained completely blank. Not irritated, not surprised or suspicious. Just blank. His eyes remained locked on the shape even as it became an awkward-feeling shape. The moments of uncomfortable silence passed and the mystery stranger declared that they were leaving, with an apology.
The boy blinked. His eyes felt dusty, like they'd become part of the theatre itself. Perhaps they had. Perhaps he saw life as an old thing now. Reality seemed different when all he could see was blue and dust. Hearing heels clip-clopping away from the stage, he soundlessly rolled over onto his back and raised his hands. He looked at them, turning them over to see the backs, the palms, observing the way the bright blue light played over his skin.
"Wait." He said finally, without looking from his hands. The word echoed a little in the empty space. Judging by the sound of her footsteps, the stranger had neared the exit but hadn't left yet. "Wait?" He said again, though this time it was quieter, and a question, almost to himself. "You were here first after all by all rights you should stay and I should go should I be sorry though I don't feel sorry..." His words were all rushed into a single breathless sentence that rolled off his tongue, and they were almost whispered, so it seemed that he was talking to himself, like he was unwilling to break the delicate silence or shift the dust with a breath. When the words trailed off, his laid his hands beside him gently, let a couple of seconds go by, and then used them to pull himself into a sitting position.
The next time he spoke, it was projected, so that it was definitely meant to be heard. "Who are you, shadow person?" He asked, his blue eyes distant and cloudy. Then he gave a laugh - a single, loud noise that only vaguely resembled what is accepted as laughter - but his face remained deadly serious.

- - - - - - - - - - - -Anxious, the feeling slid up her spine like a serpentine claw and embedded its way deep within her veins. Lids blinked a few times dropping lacy lashes upon cheeks as pace quickened and slender fingers reached out to grasp door handle that was a source of rescue. She was off today, not her normal self and she knew exactly why, it had been the damned storm that hit last night and completely ruined today for her. nothing was going right.
Words then distantly swam within dusty air's depths, starting quiet and distant then landing loud and clear into her very own drums. Pace had halted and hand with drew from prior movement while breathing steadied from its raspy and desperate contractions. Pivoting slightly she glanced over her shoulder taking in the boy before her though distant and hued in brilliant blue. Then laughter sharp and seemingly out of place within situation slashed out among the quiet atmosphere catching her off guard.
"Ok, ok." she laughed, trying to ease the tension and sauntered towards the stage carefully as to not to trip or something as ungraceful as that. Purse was dumped carelessly into a front seat while she continued maneuvering herself forward where she came upon the stage. If she was staying then she wanted to at least be able to make out the person clearly and be face to face if they were talking.
"I'm Haven, though is shouldn't be a shadow person now. Who are you Kid laying on the theater?" Hands placed palm down upon sturdy surface of stage and she hoisted herself up so she was perched on the edge with legs crossed as to keep her skirt in proper placement. Hands remained upon flooring though as she felt droplets of moisture building around them out of her anxiety rearing its ugly head. "And hope you don't mind me coming up over here, but if you intended to talk i wasn't remaining in the back to shout like Juliet did to Romeo on the balcony. That just isn't happening in my books sir."
Smile spread across lips in a grin while she took in his vacant appearance, it was as if he just woke up and was still distant and groggy yet it was as if there was still another reason. She did a quick one two of her new found acquaintance just to have a face for the name if he decided to provide it.
"And no need to be sorry or feel it though you don't feel it, i just feel bad when people look as comfortable as you did even though you were laying on a floor. Come here often to take naps or do you just look for the most awkward places to do it just once? Twice if you like it?" Voice was full of playful banter, none of it serious just carefree and giggly. This was the beginning of her jabber side, it would all be full of talk from here even if he didn't want it.

Abe, who was busy trying to decipher within his mind whether time was moving at the correct pace or not, barely received most of the girl's words. Yet at the same time he was analyzing every syllable that reached his ears.
"I'm Haven." He told her, the words looping through his mind and coming back out again. "Who are you? Who am I? Where am I? Why am I?"
Turning over again so that he was on his knees, he placed both hands over his face like a child playing hide-and-seek. "Why are you?" He continued, muffled, and then moaned into his hands in a frustrated manner. Next he got himself to his feet, not once removing his hands so that he managed the feat without using them. He began to wander then in a general downstage direction, toward the far wall. His footsteps thudded lightly on the wood of the stage as he walked.
"California," He mumbled as he went, "Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania... Ohio..." Abe reached the back of the stage and stood facing it for a few moments. "The neck bone's connected to the..." He muttered almost inaudibly.
Then he was silent. And still. Seconds ticked by.
And then he turned around, his face a little confused. "Hm?" He said, his tone suddenly no longer distant and flickering like a dying candle, but confident, and solid, and sure. "Did you say something?"

- - - - - - - - - - - - Grin slowly faltered into a look of sheer confusion while brow furrowed and jaw dropped, unable to project a single word in response to his reply. Silence just enveloped her while gaze slid slowly to the floor in front of her and she concentrated on looking at it. Concentration scaled to high heights and out of the general confusion she felt small orbs of water the size of quarters formed before her and floated lazily in small swooping patterns as if it were normal as the day is long.
This kid was... insane. A complete and utter loony shambling about spouting off random bullshit that honestly had nothing to do with anything. Really was this his power that got him dumped here? A psychotic disarranged boy who couldn't even hold an intelligent conversation before bursting into a slur of nonsense?
Lips pursed while small rotating orbs shattered into a brilliant array of droplets and hit the floor with small patters. Fine, she would just ignore the socially inept kid and do as she was going to do and pretend he wasn't even there. He seemed rather clueless to her presence as it was so what was the harm? Heels kicked off feet clattering to the ground and she shoved self to seated area, scanning seat till she found her purse. Steps frisked over while shoulders shrugged out of her jacket and dropped it into another open seat while a freed hand rummaged into a purse and tugged a a lump of things.
"No no, i said nothing don't worry about it. I'm not here." She laughed, not exactly in the tone of happy amusement but sheer disinterest at this point. She had tried talking, being the normal human but was shut down so she let it go. She wasn't in the right mind to try and force something on someone that couldn't comprehend simple words. Sigh huffed from lungs in a form of invisible carbon before her while a pair of tights were jammed onto legs, a old tattered pair of ballerina shoes forced upon feet and even a pair of leg warmers slid over stockings in an uneven mess.
"Look, obviously to you i'm not even here or something. I just jabbered on like a fool and got 'oh did you say something?' in return. Ill take that as i'm invisible or just too retarded for your company and i'll go on my way and you can go on yours sound good? No one has to leave just a compromise." Quick glance shot his way with a nod while she straightened and popped one ear bud back into her ear, leaving the other hanging loose and she piled hair into a messy bun upon head pulling it from her face.
With that she hoisted herself back up upon the stage and slid a bit of a ways fro him just in case he decided to curl up like a weirdo once more. She didn't expect or want him to leave, she had just taken a hint and something had hit her that she finally got the balls enough to do. Stance broke out motionless and statuesque for a breath of a moment until suddenly she was full of life, she broke into a plied and from there just threw herself into the song humming sweet love notes to her and began a portion of swan lake. Her moves were effortless and graceful as she swung across the stage swept up in what she was attempting. She hadn't done this in years, only watched it and secretly did it in front of the mirror, real classes she hadn't attended since before here. But she had been so natural. Mistakes through her off every so often causing her to get angry and more spheres of random aqua to appear and move just as she did, but she was so used to it all she never noticed. her control was complete shit when she was upset, and that she was.

Abe took the opportunity to once again lapse into silence, and although it was invisible to see, this silence was thoughtful, not thoughtless like the previous one. He couldn't remember any of what he had just said before, but apparently it had upset this girl. He watched with a silent interest as she got up on the stage with him and started dancing, not bothering to wonder if it was okay for people to watch other people dancing.
The part of his mind that controlled his curiosity - which was a large percentage of it - was keen to figure out what had just gone on in that space of time when he was unaware of himself or anything around him. The rest of his thoughts were occupied with social rules, trying to decide whether he was now supposed to apologize, or leave, or not talk at all. He didn't feel the need to leave, because he didn't really feel bad, despite the effect he had obviously had on the girl. It was difficult to feel bad about something when you couldn't remember doing it.
"Water manipulation?" He said suddenly, the little hovering droplets only just registering in his brain. "What a great power. And you seem to be able to conjure it too, instead of just manipulating it, which is even more rare. Useful if you're thirsty, I imagine."
He was back to his regular enthusiastic self. He wasn't sure if moving would disrupt her dancing concentration, so he stayed standing still at the back of the stage.
"Do the blue lights bother you?" He went on, "I can switch the filters off if you'd like. Blue helps me sleep. Is it hard to dance in?" Abe didn't have a very good mind for something as physically artistic as dancing. She could be terrible, or she could be performing a masterpiece and he probably wouldn't know the difference. Everything seemed elegant compared to his own awkward, out-of-place, natural way of moving.

- - - - - - - - - - - -Once she had set herself into motion she was lost within her dancing, she let herself fall into and overtake her pulling her away from reality for brief blips of time. That had been her gift when she had actually taken classes, she had been naturally talented and could just let the dance become her instead of forcing it out like most. Her teacher had pushed her to do more but as always life hit and that's the last time she saw that woman's face, she had been the only woman in Haven's life to actually care and encourage her. She had been a brief glimpse of a mother figure only to be shattered by her very own powers that got her shipped off.
The boy's presence had been completely revoked as she continued, eyes closed for most of the time spinning her own alternate fantasy until even that was broken as boys words popped in the atmosphere. Landing suddenly from a leap she spun to look at him, slightly wide eyes while the droplets of H2O suddenly pulled close to skin's expanse and sank away into pores being absorbed. Teeth captured bottom lip as the process progressed and all remaining evidence of her power was completely wiped away and began to breath once more. Mind silently scorned her for being so carelessly while focus on keeping water from manipulating once more caused tension to build within her brow.
Yes. I can conjure it absorb it and bend it to my will. Not great at any of that it usually happens when i'm anxious upset or even bored. My control is lacking besides when i'm angry, that's when my control is the best." Words crafted of hushed tones slipped from lips just loud enough for him as she dropped to the floor in a graceful pile of limps. Muscles protested anymore dancing for they hadn't been that worked in a long while, the tended to avoid or skip gym because she had never been one to be all giddy for sports.
The lights are fine, once i'm into that useless dancing i can tune everything out and nothing really bothers me." Slim shoulders rose and fell into a gallant shrug as she toyed with loose ear bud within her lap.
Curious gaze then rose to him as questions floated within its light depths, the first one being picked out at random. So why do you sleep here...kid?" Mind had traced for a name and it hit her had had never provided it, instead he had blathered on with no purpose.

Abe listened carefully and nodded his understanding when the girl explained her abilities to him. He seemed to be completely focused on her and on her words now, as if his head had been plucked from the clouds in which it had been hovering earlier. He mentally filed the information away, though his mind wasn't exactly organized, so perhaps a better expression would be that the information was lost in the torrent of thoughts that was always swirling around the inside of his head.
Abe's eyes followed her like they were locked-on as she went down, and he continued to look at her with his expression of innocent curiosity even as it was her turn to ask the questions.
"I don't." He replied, and finally moved, beginning to walk up to the edge of the stage, apparently just for the sake of walking. His eyes were turned down to the floor as if he was following footprints at the scene of a crime. "Normally, I don't. Blue helps me sleep and it only occurred to me in my last class that a place where I could get all the blue I wanted would be... here."
On the last word he stopped walking, so that it looked like he was talking about a specific spot on the stage, when actually he was referring to the entire thing. "It was more of an experiment than anything, really." He concluded.
Then another thought suddenly seemed to hit him and he beelined straight for where the girl was sat on the floor of the stage. When he reached her he stuck out his hand and smiled. His smile was friendly, innocent, but somehow slightly off. Like his eyes. Perhaps hiding some unspoken, otherworldly thoughts.
"Abraham Winters." He introduced himself, "Call me Abe. I'm sorry if I did or said something that offended you." He slipped that last part in as nonchalantly as possible, almost reluctant to mention the conversation he didn't remember.

- - - - - - - - - - - - She watched him stalk around the stage, slightly thrown off by his movements as they didn't seem to be exactly "normal" in that sort of sense. But she was overall relieved to conclude the fact he didn't seem to be as awkward and abnormal as prior moments that had put her off to ignore him. So maybe she was quick to judge at that time, but who could blame her? Gaze flicked to the ceiling littered with rafters and globed lights of various colors and sizes. She never really had paid any attention to the ways stages were crafted but mind seemed vaguely interested for no reason. it wasn't the lack of interest in company or that she was ADD but things just randomly hit her at times and mind would multi task a situation such as this, she would pick apart the room while listening to him answer her previous statements.
Face flitted with a small smile while gray optics simmering with the slightest traces of cerulean jolted back to the boy. he was going on about the lights and his experiment which caused a small and almost non existent giggle to pass over tongue and issue into dusty yet comforting air.
"Just throwing a guess to the wind, but i'm guessing your power that landed you here with the rest of us misfits revolves around sleep or something of that nature?" question wasn't prying or demanding what he could do, just sort of a side note though she couldn't lie that she was curious about what others could do. Knowing, just the simple knowledge of other powers that lurked beneath the skin of normal humans gave her a small comfort that she wasn't alone even though she felt it. Slender hand then lifted and grasped his own, firmly giving it a shake as he seemed to formally introduce himself. "Haven Voyd. Call me Haven or what ever your little heart pleases, i adapt to nicknames well."
It may have been awkward, a shake of hands as she sat placed idly on the floor but first impressions were already out the window because of their little mishap of stumbling upon each other. his placed statement at the end of introduction was ignored though, she was over it and there was no other reason to drag it out. Let dead dogs lie. "Something about you is so off but it fits, it's not an insult by the way either. Just something im noticing." And there it was, all honesty as Haven couldn't seem to sensor herself as she watched the boy now dubbed Abe, it was intriguing in such a way she almost couldn't remove her curious probing gaze.

With her question about the nature of his power, Abe burst into a bright smile. "Correct!" He said, "I'm oneirokinetic." and tapped the side of his head to demonstrate where the source of his power was, and, in case that wasn't enough, "Like Freddy Krueger, but without the murdering."
In retrospect, that probably wasn't the best way to introduce his power to a stranger. Still, he didn't stop to consider the stupidity of his statement, and instead nodded appreciatively at being told her name. Abe did enjoy meeting knew people, and made it a habit to try and remember the names of people who he liked. Considering Haven had caught him at an unfavorable moment, he decided he owed it to her to prioritize the remembering of her name.
He was caught away from his thoughts by a comment. "Off?" He echoed, and his hand pulled away from contact with hers. It was almost like a flinch, an automatic reaction to the word. His smile vanished, and his eyes wandered from her face to look instead toward the edge of the stage. It was the look of someone who was trying to reason whether or not they could make a break for it before they were restrained and interrogated.
He knew exactly what was 'off' about him, the reason people saw him as odd or somehow different. Most people would be content just to put it down to eccentricity, or just being naturally quirky. Most people certainly didn't put it to his attention they way Haven did.
He stayed stock still for a few slow seconds.
"More like Neil Gaiman's Sandman, actually, than Freddy Krueger." He said abruptly, looping back to an earlier topic as if Haven had never made her comment.
He shuffled a few feet away, still looking at the stage at his feet. "I certainly don't own all the dreams in the world..." He found the spot he was looking for, circled around it and, like a dog settling down for a nap, only then sat himself down on the stage, so that he could be at the same level as his new acquaintance. "...But I can pass into the dreams of other people, manipulate dream worlds, and so on." He sat cross-legged and recaptured that 'slightly off' smile he had earlier.
