I Think I Like You... {Kaiser}

[Kaiser Joseph Kittes.]

"Uh...yeah. I've always wanted to have my first kiss...but growing up in Texas as a gay kid wasn't all that easy." He said with and uneasy laugh. "Well I'm not going to tell a soul. I promise. Ok Nathan." The boy said as he scooted closer to his new found friend. "I think it'll be much easier to live together now that we don't hate each other." Kaiser said with a smile. "So do you like anyone at the school? Boy or girl? The people here are really pretty, so there must be a few that you think are cute huh?" The boy grinned at Nathan, now taking in all his features. He was most certainly an attractive boy. No doubt in that.

"Oh... um..." Nathan could feel his face burning a bright red. Of all the questions for Kaiser to ask... but he really couldn't tell him. Not now. That would be so abrupt, so sudden... so likely to scare him off. They'd just gotten over being enemies, and now he was thinking about admitting that he had a crush on him. No way in hell could he do that. "I dunno... I don't know that many people yet. A few are cute, but I don't know anyone well enough to actually like them..." Except you.

"Aw, well thats a shame." The boy said with a fake frown. "The boy's here are almost too cute, I almost have to close my eyes to not be distracted by all the prettiness." Kaiser said with a little giggle. "The girls are really beautiful too. If I wasn't gay I'd probably like a couple of them." He said jokingly. "You're cute yourself so I'm sure you'll find someone soon, be it boy or girl. I'm sure you'll catch a beauty." Kaiser said as he leaned back in his chair. "I kinda want to be with someone, no one in particular, but just...with someone. I've been alone all my life and I kinda want to try a relationship. I have no clue what to do in one...but I want to try it out and see what happens...ya know?"

Nathan squirmed uncomfortably on the bed. Great. Kaiser was looking for a relationship, even interested in trying to have one, and Nathan was too terrified to open his mouth and ask him. What was wrong with him? This was all he'd wanted for days, all he'd thought about for hours on end, but he couldn't get the words to even form in his mind. "Yeah," he said weakly, "I know..." Then try it with me! his mind screamed. Ask me if I'd want to go out with you! But why would he? Kaiser wasn't looking for somebody like him.. they'd only been friends for the past five minutes.

No. He had to do it. If he didn't ask now, then how would he ever bring himself to do it? "Um... Kaiser... what if... um..." Dammit. How was he supposed to say something like this? "I think I kind of... um... like you..."

"What?" Kaiser asked wide eyed. "You...like me?" He asked shaking his head trying to figure out what Nathan had just said. "You like me? But, you hated me a few minutes ago." The boy said as he scooted back at bit. "Nathan, that's a bit hard to understand." Actually it made complete sense, that's the reason Nathan wanted to be friends again, Nathan had a crush on Kaiser. "I mean, you are really cute, it's just that...I hardly know you." He said trying to get over his shock. Kaiser had been caught completely off guard and wasn't sure what he should do next. "What...uh...I don't know what to do now Nathan."

"I didn't hate you," he protested quietly. "I was mad at you..." But he could already tell that he'd blown it. Kaiser didn't want to know anything like that. Why the hell would he want to date somebody like Nathan? He was just the weird kid who sat under trees and drew dirty pictures. "Well, I don't know either. I, uh... I'll just go." He stood up and started for the door. He could feel his face burning a bright red. He'd ruined everything now...

"No, Nathan." Kaiser said as he reached for Nathan but missed. "I don't want you to go, come sit back down please?" The boy said as he looked up at Nathan. "You're really nice-" At least now he was. "-and cute. So maybe we could have something?" He asked waiting for the other boy to come back to him. "So you like me...?" He asked again. It was just odd, actually having someone like him. He had never had that feeling before, or at least knowing a person likes you. Kaiser softly bit down on his lip, chewing it slightly. "Do you want to try and go out or something?"

Nathan leaned back heavily against the door. He couldn't do this. Kaiser had already expressed his shock... he didn't want to go out with him. He was only saying that, probably to keep them from becoming enemies all over again. "No... not if you don't want to. It's not right. You don't have to say that just because I asked, you know." He stared down at the floor; it was too hard to look him in the eye. "But yeah... I do like you."

"Nathan, if I didn't want to do it I wouldn't have said I did. Ok? I don't lie." The boy said as he got up from the chair and walked towards the other. "I promise, I want to try. What's the harm in it? Huh? Nothing." He said with a smile. "I mean, it would be kinda awesome going out with your roommate, you'd never be that far away from them." He said with a giggle as he looked up at Nathan. "Cheer up? Please? For me? I think it could work Nathan...I really do."

If you wanted to do it, then why did you say no? The question burned inside of him, but he couldn't bring himself to open his mouth. It would only create tension between them, and even if they couldn't be together, he didn't want tension. It was terrible, and he knew that from experience. "I... but I don't want you to be unhappy... why didn't you say yes before, if you were going to?"

"You just surprised me is all. I wasn't expecting you to say that at all. Sorry, but I do like the idea. Let's try and if it works then wonderful but if it doesn't we can say that at least we tried...right?" The boy asked Nathan. "Remember, I've never dated anyone either. I haven't a clue how this stuff is supposed to work. So sense we are both novices in dating we can try it out on each other and see if anything grows from it, what do you think?" He asked with another smile. "I promise I wont be unhappy...I really like this idea."

"...really?" Nathan finally looked up from the floor. Kaiser sounded like he meant it... and Nathan could feel his heart beating fast at the thought. Going out with Kaiser... having a boyfriend, and not just any boyfriend, but his crush. His first real crush, and he'd only known him for a few days. Anybody else would likely have said that they were rushing things, but Nathan was suddenly ecstatic. "OK."

Kaiser smiled at Nathan. "Ok." A slight blush ran across his face. "So, um..." The boy said as he slightly bit down on his lip. "What do we do now?" Kaiser was not sure at all, it's not like he had a lot of practice when it came to dating. Though he was sure Nathan hadn't a clue either. "What do people who are dating do? Other than...like...make out and stuff?" Actually saying those words make the blush deepen on his cheeks. "I mean..you know?" He said, not making any sense now. "Wanna go for a walk or something?" Kaiser said as he tried to recover from his rambling.

"Um... I don't know. I've never really... I mean, nobody... I've never dated anyone before..." How could he have? Most people at home thought he was crazy, or else they thought his father was, and that had eliminated most of his chances at having even a friend, let alone anything more. "Sure... a walk would be nice." It sounded a lot better than making out, that was for sure. Sooner or later he would have to tell Kaiser about his fear of being touched, especially if they were going to go out... but not now. Not when he'd finally convinced Kaiser that he wasn't crazy. He opened the door, then gestured for the other to join him. "Let's go."

Kaiser nodded, grabbing his wallet before leaving the room. 'Just in case we stop somewhere.' He mentally added. "So Nathan, what made you want to ask me...you know...out?" He asked not looking at the other boy, keeping his eyes down to the floor. "Because...I don't know...like most people apparently don't think I'm attractive or something...I guess. Cause no one ever asked me. I don't know." He said as he looked at Nathan out the corner of his eye. "Maybe I'm just over thinking it. I dunno." He said quickly looking back to the ground. "Where do you want to go?"
