Abe laughed at that last comment. His laugh was a warm, friendly sound but, like the rest of him, seemed somehow out of place. "Alright then, okay," He started again, and walked in a little circle around her, peering at the ground as though looking for something that had been dropped. He was in fact looking for a chair to sit on. He concluded that forests didn't have enough of them.
"Okay, so when your duplicates dematerialize, do you gain the memories that they accumulated? What I'm asking is if you could theoretically have three different days worth of experiences, or more, in one day, all without even leaving your dormitory." He was evidently interested in the capability of her powers. Many of the powers he had witnessed during his time at Power's Academy were easily explained away and filed as being one thing or another. With Clarissa's power there were a lot more variables.
"Oh, wow!" He said and stopped abruptly. "Do you have five, or six, or seven social lives?" It didn't occur to Abe that he might be being nosy or pressuring. Deciding to stop hovering around like an annoying fly, but still lacking a plausible excuse for a chair, Abe then simply backed up and sat himself down on the ground, looking up at her and waiting for an explanation. He strongly resembled a child in pre-school awaiting a teacher's lesson. Albeit a very peculiar child.

when the devil wants to dance with you ,YOU BETTER SAY NEVER because a dance with the devil might last you forever - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 'Alright then,' was hardly the reply she'd been anticipating after her question. It didn't really answer anything. Actually, it wasn't even minorly connected to her question. Clarissa had a thought that Abe could probably make a really good politician; avoiding the questions. He certainly had the ability to talk around in a circle and confuse the other person, or her, until they had no idea what he was saying. Wasn't that basically the essence of a politician?
Usually when all of the questions started coming Clarissa would just up and walk away. Some other students had discovered that on the first day of classes, one of the very few times she had actually cared to attend school. Everyone had been curious about her, and the questions had just kept coming and coming until Clarissa had finally had enough and left the room. It had cost her a meeting with Miss Mays, but she hadn't care. She didn't want to just leave Abe hanging, though. She was fairly certain that he didn't mean any harm, and he wasn't as annoying as some of the students at the school with their relentless questioning. There couldn't be any harm in answering just this once. 'Sides, looking down at him perched on the ground, it would be pretty rude to tell him off and leave him hanging.
"My duplicates are always connected for me," she shrugged, completely casual about the quite awesome ability she possessed. "Like right now, I could tell you that Mrs. Whatshername, my history teacher, is telling the class about how her some however-many-greats grandfather on her dad's side died in the American Civil war. I can't tell you what she was talking about fifteen minutes ago, or anything that Reese has seen in the last fifteen minutes, but I can tell you what's going on right now because I'm paying attention to it. When I recall Reese I'll be able to know everything that happened with her today, if I care to pay any attention to it. So yeah, I could have a bunch of different experiences per day, but having three or more mes in different places at one time isn't advisable seeing as there's not even supposed to be two of me unless the teachers authorize it."
She actually laughed at his next shocked sort of comment, shaking her head. "Like I said, not really advisable since I'm not supposed to use duplication. Nor am I the type to want several different social lives. I'm happy just having... well, I'm happy just being me." It couldn't really be said that Clarissa had a social life. She was a very 'stick to herself' sort of person, and when her duplicates were out they often followed her example, unless she sent Social Butterfly Ari out, but she usually didn't.

"And rightly so." Abe interjected, having been silent and attentive during what seemed to be turning into a lesson. Ironic, as a lesson was exactly what Clarissa had come out here to avoid. Then he turned his attention to analyzing what she had told him about her power. He was right in thinking that it was a fascinating gift. It was fascinating from a logical aspect: the fact that one time period shouldn't be able to see two of the same individual, and also from a psychological aspect: the idea of a split consciousness and the effects that would have on the master source. Not to mention a hundred other angles.
He took a mental step back before he started looking at his new acquaintance like she was a science project. He was never any good at science anyway. Art he was good at.
He picked over his next question in his mind with the utmost care before selecting it, as though he knew that he would only have so many goes before she would be unwilling to share any more information. Which was fair enough.
"You name each of your duplicates." He said, but it was more of a statement than a question. "Do they all represent a different part of your personality--" His head suddenly snapped to the right, as though he had heard something and it had torn his attention away from the conversation. He sat like that for a moment. Then he was on his feet.
"Ah..." He said, pressing both his hands to his mouth and looking around at the forest. "Oh dear..." He murmured, his voice muffled through his hands. Then he remembered he was with someone else. "Oh, sorry." He told her. "I just remembered something. Ohhh dear..." he bit on one of his fingers as he looked increasingly worried about something. "Sorry," He said again, "There's a jar of mice on a timer in one of the classrooms." To him that seemed like a perfectly reasonable reason for leaving a conversation. "We'll talk again later, okay? Ugh, I feel really bad for just leaving like this..."
He hesitated, looking back in the direction of the Academy and then back at Clarissa. "Nope!" He decided, "That's it, I've got to go!"
He began to trot away in the direction of the Academy. Then he stopped and returned. He stood next to Clarissa and fished around in one of his pockets until he found a candy bar, which he placed in her hand. "These taste really good. Try." He said, and that was it. He was off again, dashing off into the space between the trees, disappearing as suddenly as he had appeared.

when the devil wants to dance with you ,YOU BETTER SAY NEVER because a dance with the devil might last you forever - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The whole naming thing was a bit embarrassing for Clarissa. It all stemmed from when she was a kid and her only friend in the world was Clare, who she'd thought was imaginary at the time. As she'd grown a bit older and her personality had developed a bit more, therefore letting more duplicates form, she'd named each of them as they came. When she was little they'd all been her friends. When she was older and on the streets they were her partners in crime and names were useful when they were telling 'sob stories' to sympathetic men and women for money. Now it was basically a way to tell them all apart and to make herself not sound so insane when she was talking to herself. She might actually question her own mental stability if she was always addressing Clare, Reese, Ari, or any of the others as 'me'. Before Abraham was even finished speaking she was preparing to explain the multiple personality naming thing without sounding quite so insane, but then he seemed to very quickly become distracted by something else, and she stopped herself.
"Are you ok-" Clarissa cut herself off as he began to speak again, but for a moment she wasn't even sure if he remembered that she was right there. She stood perfectly still, watching him as he spoke to himself. A... jar of mice? On a timer? What the fudge? One point for Abe's insanity. "Uh.. it's not a problem..." was her halting response to his implied apology of leaving her alone. She was obviously kind of dumbstruck by the suddenness of this. As he walked away she shook her head slightly, stunned by the sudden exit, and then suddenly just as stunned by his reappearance. "Thanks," was all she could find to say as he put something in her hand and bolted off again. She glanced down at the candy bar once he was out of sight, turning it over and over in her hand before slipping it into her pockets and walking through the woods in the direction of her dorm. "Who says you miss all of the interesting stuff when you skip class?"
