Melina continued to walk along the forest floor, her eyes carefully scanning her surroundings. She loved her little visits out here - it was like therapy. The lush trees, the green grass, the occasional wildlife, made everything seem so beautifully perfect. And since it was rare that she had time to herself these days, Melina selfishly took her time gazing at all the beauty Mother Nature had provided. It was a shame people took the beauty of nature, such as this, for granted. Most people didn't understand the beauty nor the importance of nature, which was quite sad. If only people knew that without nature, we wouldn't be here. Maybe it took a power like hers to truly understand nature. After all, she had the ability to bring life into plants, and connect with the energy of the sun. Maybe it was because of her connection that she held nature so dear.
Melina continued to walk among natures beauty, her ungainly footsteps almost causing her to trip a few times. Only when she got to a decent sized clearing did she stop. Flopping down on to the soft, wet grass, Melina smiled - amazed by how such trivial things could turn her horrible day around so quickly. Out here she wasn't worried about grading papers or preaching to kids the importance of doing homework; no, out here she was stress free, and more importantly: happy. She did however, feel a bit guilty about being happy to be away from her students. But even a woman like her had limits, and it was only so much she could take of hormonal teenagers with superpowers. Heck, she was still wondering how she made it this far without exploding. Melina was a nice woman, but her temper short and fiery.
Melina looked up at the sky, carefully acknowledging the sun - it was her source of power after all. Just basking in its presence gave her a sense of power, like she could take on the whole world. Closing her eyes, Melina just smiled as the heat comforted her body like a large blanket. The feeling was unexplainable, but Melina enjoyed it. It was like...she was a part of the sun. It was like as if she could feel degree of heat that the overly large star provided. Odd, but nevertheless, it was how she felt. Melina sighed, "Maybe today won't be so bad, after all..."

Today’s class wasn’t so bad. Elliot thought to himself as he started packing up his guitar into the case. Elliot Fletcher, being the country boy he was, was dressed in cowboy boots, a cowboy hat, a flannel short sleeved button up shirt. This felt comfortable on him, it just felt right. With guitar case in hand, he was feeling hungry so he decided to walk toward the door that would lead him to the forest.
He continued getting hungry and food wouldn’t sustain him. He stepped outside feeling the solar rays on him. His own photosynthesis started. He could feel the sun’s energy building inside his body, turning into plasma. He unbuttoned the top two buttons on his shirt and walked into the forest and stopped a minute, looking around to see if anyone was heading this way and started to walk further, stepping on the grass that felt natural to him. He wouldv’e loved to be horseback riding, problem was he wasn’t sure there was any horses around to ride.
As he got into a good area, he heard someone else walking too. He stopped and sat on the ground, pulling out his guitar and started to play his song that was written a while back ago, before he decided to come back home called LA. He wondered if the person would start coming toward the music. He got up and strapped the guitar around him and started walking closer to the noise that wasn’t so easy to hear now.
As he continued to walk toward, he started changing the song into something a bit more upbeat, named Crazy In Love. ”Angels dancing in my head again, and it keeps my walking pace just a little faster than what it used to be, cause she found me, now there’s dancing in my head. Am I crazy? Well, yes I am.{/b} He sang as he stopped and just continued playing, enjoying the music coming from his guitar. He absolutely loved this song, though he never actually loved a woman the way the writer of this song had. The drummer of the band had written the song for his own wedding, which Elliot was the best man of.
As he stopped playing he continued to listen for the footsteps and his mind just wondered to who it could be. What if it was someone wanting to start a fight, or one of his classmates? He got under a shade of a tree, to make sure he wasn’t absorbing more solar energy than he should and made a plasma ball in his hand and made a round shape into it, to mark that he was there, in case he decided to walk off. The plasma ball disappeared and he stood still, still listening for the footsteps, not really caring anymore if they walked toward him or not, but continued to play his instrument. [/size]

Melina continued to look up, her eyes fixated on the sun. As a child, she was always told to never look directly at the sun because it could harm your eyes, but Melina didn't care about such risk, this moment of beauty was worth it. She enjoyed being out here...alone. However, all hopes of being alone were put to rest when she heard the sound of a guitar. It was probably some student out and about, and Melina hoped that the noise would soon pass. No such luck. In fact the the guitar playing was now being accompanied by singing. The voice was angelic and oddly familiar. She knew that voice - she knew it very well.
Melina quickly got up, making sure to brush the excess dirt from her little sun dress that was so tight you could see every curve of her body. Melina was loved the way the dress comforted her body, so she decided to wear it, not caring if others saw it as inappropriate. Brushing away the hair that had fallen over her face, Melina followed the sound of the guitar.
In what seemed like record time, she was here - watching her friend and fellow colleague enjoy the beauty of music. She said nothing, only watched as he handle his instrument with delicate hands. It was amazing how much talent Alex had; heck, he had always been good when it came to music. His ability to make music was something she had always admired. "I see you still have a gift," Melina finally commented, making her presence known. "That was a beautiful song, did you write it?" she asked, cringing as her accent crept it's way into her sentence. Not that Melina wasn't proud to be Hispanic, she just hated having an accent. It just made her...different.
Melina walked closer, though her movement was put on hiatus as she noticed a dying plant. Kneeling down, Melina placed a gentle hand over the plant and watched as the yellow glow emitted from her hand. Five seconds later, and the plant was as good as new. "Sorry, I can't stand to see a dying plant," Melina laughed lightly as the silly sentence left her mouth. She knew she probably sounded quite odd, but she didn't care and Elliot was probably used to it, anyway. "So, ¿Cómo estás, amigo? Melina spoke in her native tongue with a smile.

When she finally caught up to him, he just smiled while secretly checking her out. He made it look like he was into the song. She had on a very nice looking dress that made him go wild, but he wouldn’t show it. With her, it was different than with most girls. He’d be on top of any other girl who dressed like that faster than a rabbit could scurry.
After the song was finished, he wrapped the guitar around the other side of him, where it was laying against his back so they could have a conversation. ”You call what I have a gift? Have you seen yourself lately? Your beauty is God given.” He said with a grin on his face. Until he heard her ask if he had written the song. ”Yes, I did.” He lied, ”It was written about you.” He said, as he realized he was flirting with her, he hadn’t meant to. It was that dress she was wearing. He loved the way her accent always crept up, but he hadn’t ever realized why it bothered her so much. He has always been into her accent, it was one thing that kept him close to her all this time.
As she walked closer to him, his grin grew into huge smile as he found himself moving closer to her as well. Only to find her stopping to help a plant, it was just like her to do that. As she bent down though, his eyes followed her and looked up. ”Hey… Mel… fix your shirt.” He said as he loved what he saw, but she was one of the few women he actually respected, as they grew up at the school together.
”I understand about crazy little habbits, if you haven’t noticed I can’t sit still for long without something to do.” He said with a smirk. ”Though, one thing I haven’t done in a while is horseback riding.” He said, trying to just put crazy ideas in her head, until she started speaking Spanish. ”You do realize I don’t understand that foreign language, I’m very fluent in English if you want to try talking that Ms. Latina.” His eyes went to the source of his power and nutrition. ”The sun’s nice today, not too bright, the sky’s not too cloudy.” He said, knowing well enough that appreciation for the sun was something that they shared.

Melina smiled at his compliment; she had to admit, he knew had to flatter a girl. Perhaps if her skin wasn't as dark she would have blushed. It was a rare thing for any guy to make Melina feel giddy, but Elliot often did the trick. Still, Melina would negate any feelings for the guy -- she couldn't nor would she ever admit she liked him. It just wasn't in her nature, and relationships were not her thing. Besides, he probably had a girlfriend and she didn't want to ruin their friendship. To Melina, their friendship was worth way more than any relationship. She had known him since her time as a student at Powers' Academy.
"A song about me, huh?" Melina smiled, it was a nice thing for him to do and it made her feel special. "Didn't know I was so worthy," she said, barely able to contain her smile. Melina's smile faded and was quickly replaced by shock as he told her to fix her shirt. "Oops," she said, feeling the embarrassment rising through her cheeks. "I guess I should wear...looser clothes." She said with a giggle, trying to hide the fact that she was still a bit embarrassed.
"Yes, horseback riding! I haven't been in a while myself...mainly because a certain friend of mine has yet to take me." Melina said now regaining her composure after her little slip up. "Seriously, we don't spend enough time together!" she said, not caring how much her statement resembled that of a teenage girl's. "I know we are both busy and all, but still, we used to have so much fun." Melina said smiling as her mind reflected on some of the good ol' days between the two.
"By the way, I never got to teach you Spanish. You could use a little more culture in your life." Melina teased. Her eyes looked up as he talked about the sun -- she had almost forgot he shared the same connection with it as her. In fact, his connection probably was a bit more intense. She had never really asked about his power, even after all this time they had spent together. "So tell me, what does your power do exactly?" Melina asked, curious to see how it compared to her own.

Elliot had always enjoyed his times with Melina, half the time it was relaxing, and even when they weren’t just relaxing and talking, he knew he was just talking to an equal and not to a student. Then she said something about loose clothing while he was looking up at the sun. ”Yea, and that’ll stop you from plopping out of your top.” He said in a jokingly matter. ”Not that I wouldn’t mind it, but I just respect you too much.” He continued with a grin on his face, trying to imagine it.
As he listened to her telling him that they don’t spend enough time together, he took it in, chuckling a bit. He’d get back to that later, in a way that’ll probably make her regret her statement. He didn’t even realize how much of a teenage girl her statement made her sound like, it was her. Anything she said he would take to heart, unless it was a joke, which he could always tell the difference between the two. His mind too went back to the good ol’ days of the two, then he looked at her. ”Did you ever hear about the rumors of us dating back then? When someone asked me about it, I told him that I had no idea and that it would be a blast if it was true.” Then his eyes went back to the sun as his body just took it in.
She started talking about teaching him Spanish and how he needed more culture in his life. ”I have the earth under my feet, the guitar on my back, the sun in my face, and a beautiful girl right next to me. I think I have enough culture, but thanks for the offer.” That was basically his way of telling her that he refused to learn Spanish, he wouldn’t let her. He’d probably turn a class between the two into something else if he could. ”Well, the sun and I have a bit more of a connection than the two of you do, or you or I do. While you eat for substance, consider me here talking to you under the sun my way of eating for substance. My body goes through a process, similar to your precious flowers and trees. He said as his eyes shifted back to her. ”I take the energy that I get from the sun and my body transfers it into plasma that my body needs for substance.” He said as he put up his hand and held it like he was holding a ball. ”I can also use that plasma and turn it into beams, like so.” He explained as he began shift the plasma through his body and into his hand, then the plasma started to show itself physically like a ball. ”I can make plasma balls or beams. Which is why I came back, I used that ability to save someone at the risk of exposing myself and I think someone saw me save the man. So I did the only thing that I could, I came back home.
As he continued the explanation, the plasma disappeared from his hand and his body started moving slowly to her, close enough that he could kiss her if he wanted. ”Right here with you is where I need to be, where I shouldv’e stayed.” His hand went up to touch her cheek softly. ”And as for you and I not spending enough time together, I say we should go hit some bars tonight. I’ll buy and we can call it a date.” He said with a smile as his eyes focused on her beautiful brown eyes. ”Deal?”

Melina listened intently as he talked about his powers and how they worked. Needless to say, his powers were a lot different than hers. While they both dealt with the sun, he practically lived through the sun, while she could only manipulate it's solar energy. Melina thought it to be quite interesting how different their powers actually were -- she would have to further explore it later. As of now, the two needed time to catch up on other stuff, such as why they weren't so close anymore. Sure they were still friends, but not like they used to be. She could no longer tell him all her secrets, and he probably felt the same. She missed her friend; she missed him, period.
Melina was starting to feel slightly flustered as he inched closer; why was he doing this? Anyone who knew Melina, knew how easily she blushed; it wasn't too hard to make the woman red as a tomato. Melina took a few steps back, she wouldn't let herself be fooled by his charms. No matter how nice and caring he was to her, Melina knew she could never actually be with Elliot. Until he could change his womanizing ways, Melina had to keep her distance. She wouldn't allow herself to get hurt by any man...not again. Physical pain healed, but emotional scarring could last for a life time.
"If right here is where you wanted to be, you would have never left." Melina couldn't stop the bitterness that engulfed her tone -- she had yet to forgive him fully for leaving. Melina knew it was stupid to hold on to such a trivial matter, yet she did. He was her friend and he just up and left her. "Why did you leave?" Melina asked, quickly covering up any hurt that may have came from her tone. Melina was not weak, and she would be damned if she started now. She was not the scared little girl she once was; she was a woman now. A woman who had mastered her ability and was now helping others like herself. She didn't need Elliot to tell her everything would be alright, yet she would give anything to hear him say it. As much as she wanted to be angry with him, Melina couldn't bring herself to do it. So instead of telling him no, Melina accepted his offer. "Fine, but I try not to drink as much anymore, it's not good for me." Melina said solemnly, remembering her trouble with alcohol and what it did to her.

As she stepped back, he knew something was wrong so he stopped in his tracks. It hurt him yes, but he knew he probably understood the reason, and where this conversation was heading next. If he could be so open with others, then why couldn’t he be so open with the one of the few people who actually mattered, one of the few people he cared for? That was the real question. When it came to women, he didn’t actually like the woman, but parts of them. With Melina, that was definitely different, not only did he like her, but he’d loved her for so long that he didn’t see the point of his life, he just lived it.
She asked why he left, the worst part is that he left without telling her. ”Melina, Mel… if I stayed to say goodbye I probably wouldn’t have left to start off with. Why does a chic leave it’s nest? Why do normal people leave home? I needed to get out on my own, try to go for my dream to be a star. I love music, you know I do. I also had to get out on my own to show myself that I could do it. I might have come home because of a certain situation, but I’m glad it happened. I couldn’t tell you how glad I am to be back and you’re the reason I’m glad. I missed you so much while I was in Texas, you’re one of the most important people in my life. The thought of coming home to you is what talked me out of doing so many stupid things just for the thrill while I was away. I couldv’e went rock climbing without a bungee, I wanted to, but if I slipped and fell from so many hundred feet I couldv’e died and I couldn’t do that without seeing you again.” He said as his voice started to tremble. ”One of my friends had told me that I’m so good with telling people how I feel, but with you it’s also different, with you everything is different. I don’t want to be this guy who’s known for his one night stands every night, I don’t want to be known as this guy as I am now. What I want to be known for is being the man that you need in your life, something I always wanted. It’s something I always needed. I’ve always been better at action so…“ He said as he quickly moved to her with the intention of planting his lips on hers. He stopped as he got so close. He couldn’t do it, she deserved so much better. ”Never mind, you deserve better.” He said as he turned to walk back toward the school.

Melina stood there staring, her feet firmly planted into the ground. What was she supposed to say? In all honesty, she had never seem Elliot like this, and she couldn't possibly fathom what to do. Did she admit her feelings for him and just hold him until the day passed? No, she couldn't. No matter how much she wanted to be with him, or feel what it was like to be held in his arms, she had to stay strong! This was Elliot, he would be with the next attractive woman he came in contact with. Though something told Melina she was wrong. Maybe he really did like her. If so, then it would just make everything that much more confusing. She lik- loved Elliot, but she knew what he was capable of. Melina was petrified of getting hurt, and she wasn't ready to give Elliot the ability to finish off her already crumbled heart. But still, he sounded so sincere -- she wanted to believe that everything he was saying was legit and that they could walk off into the distance together. But again, her head kept telling her no, while her heart just wanted to pounce into his arms.
Melina's breath got hitched in her throat as he came closer. She was expecting a kiss, and was already prepared for the consequences...but he stopped. Melina appeared grateful for this, but on the inside she was dying. Oh how she wanted to feel his lips pressed against hers as they connected under the sun. But such thoughts were wishful thinking, ruined by the truth of reality. Why couldn't she tell him how she felt? Telling him the truth would have been much easier than watching them both break down. "Elliot...I-I" Melina was at a severe loss of words. What did she say to him? "No, I want you." Melina said, instantly realizing that the sentence had came from her mouth. She hadn't meant to say that aloud, but it was too late now. It was out there now, so she might as well continue.
"Elliot, I love you, but look at us! No matter how much we want to, we both know that us being together is bad." Melina said, not even believing her own words. They were almost perfect for each other, but she had to say something to guard her heart...and his.

Hearing what Melina had to say, Elliot stopped in his tracks, keeping his eyes turned away from her. He didn’t want her saying that just to keep him from walking away. He was hoping she wanted him for her, not for him. As he kept looking toward the school, she started speaking and her words just made him freeze up. She loved him, was it really true? He shouldv’e kissed her, but he didn’t so he either had to make this right or live with it. Then he turned around after hearing the rest of that statement. ”Who says it isn’t right? Maybe I do all sorts of one nighters, but you know what? I’d leave all that just for you. “ He said, starting to walk back toward her. ”I’ve been holding out so long, waiting for you to notice me, not as a friend, but as the man who wants nothing more but for your happiness.” He said with a smile as he got so close to her that someone couldn’t even walk between them without pushing one of them out of the way, and if someone did he’d push back.
”We were so close that people thought we were together, I’ve wanted to be with you, I want you more than you could know for as long as I can remember.” He said as his hand went to her cheek softly. ”If we can be nothing but friends I’d still be happy, just as long as you’re in my life.” He said honestly, gazing into her eyes. ”I was being honest with you, when it comes to you, it isn’t your beauty, it isn’t your …” He stopped for a minute to think of the right word. ”Goodies. I mean, I do love how the sun hits your hair and your skin, I even love the accent that you hate so much, if not as much as you hate it, more. I love that whenever I plan on being active, you’ll more than likely be right beside me, along for the ride, but reminding me how stupid something is so I don’t end up going too far. We might have been better friends than we are now, but I don’t want what we were, I want what we could be. To touch your skin, to feel your lips, to…” He stopped as he leaned in to kiss her softly.
