( P O W E R ) Super strength: Dewey’s physical strength is disproportionate even to his ridiculous height. It is unknown what the exact limits to his strength is, but he has previously lifted a small car with ease. The extra power behind the muscles of his legs allows him to run faster than normal, and jump a little higher, though considering his height, this is rarely required. He has also proven himself to be more durable than the average non-power human, though conventional means would certainly kill him and/or injure him if they were applied in strong enough doses.

-Cartoons: “Who doesn’t like cartoons?”
-Basketball: “I’m really good at it, as long as I’m careful I don’t knock anyone out.”
-School: “I really like going to Power’s Academy. I wish I could live there forever.”
-Going outside: “Especially when it’s sunny.”
-Making friends: “That’s the best thing about school.”
-Fireworks: “They can be noisy sometimes, but they look really cool when it’s dark.”
-Animals: “Dogs are my favourite, but I’m not allowed to have one in school.”
-Airplanes: “Being high up in the air makes all the people look tiny.”
-People with moustaches: “They look so funny.”
-Comic books: “The superheroes are good models for people who have powers like me. The bad guys are bad models though, so we should make sure no angry people read comic books.”

-Not getting the joke: “I don’t get why people are laughing sometimes.”
-People laughing at him: “I could just hit them but I’m not supposed to.”
-Rain: “If you go outside when it’s raining really bad, you could catch a cold.”
-Books: “In class we have to read these really big books, and I don’t get lots of the words in them.”
-Bullies: “I don’t get why people can’t just be friends.”
-Films in other languages: “They make me fall asleep every time.”
-Mathematics: “They make my head hurt.”
-Not seeing his parents: “I miss them a lot.”
-Clothes shopping: “It’s hard to find ones that fit me.”
-Aliens: “I don’t want them to take off the top of my head and scoop out my brains for their experiments. I don’t know how to deal with something like that.”

-Physical strength: Both Dewey’s height and strength puts him at a certain point of untouchability in the school. This also makes him a popular choice for befriending, as nobody is going to pick on a friend of Dewey’s when he’s around.
-Honesty: He was taught when he was young that lying was bad, and he has tried not to do it since.
-Loyalty: Like a gigantic dog, he’ll be your friend for life and put his pals before himself in any situation.
( W E A K N E S S E S )
-Intelligence: Or lack of. He may be as strong as an ox, but his brain might actually be the size of a peanut.
-Gullible: As an extension of the above, he is far too trusting and will pretty much believe anything people tell him.
-Physical strength: His greatest strength is also a big weakness. If he isn’t careful, he can easily cause harm to people, animals or innocent pieces of furniture around him.
-Attention span: He is very easily distracted. Anything that doesn’t instantly interest him isn’t going to last long.
-Clumsy: Often Dewey can also be clumsy, which, whilst making him all the more lovable, also routinely causes mass chaos.

( O V E R A L L ) Dewey can be summed up in just a few words. He is strong, loyal and sweet. He always puts others before himself and makes a great friend to have, both for constant protection from absolutely anything, and a person who honestly cares about your problems (though don’t expect any advice). He is also a complete idiot. Being as simple as he is, he constantly needs things dumbed down for him, and is frequently patronised for his intelligence level, though he doesn’t realise this so it doesn’t bother him. He is always acting for what he thinks is the best, but nine times out of ten it will only worsen a situation. Although he makes a good tagalong and has simple needs and values, he is useless when it comes to planning anything, solving anything, leading people, supplying intelligent conversation, or giving directions. Despite his obvious faults, he seems to be quite content with his life and his present situation, and chooses to live in the present, not worrying about life after Power’s.

( O V E R A L L ) Mr and Mrs Hatchet are both good natured, generous and kind-hearted people. They are also both notably stout, with the lady standing at 4’11’’, and the gentleman only coming to 5’4’’. You can imagine their surprise when their firstborn child Duane experienced a growth spurt at the age of six and quickly overtook them both, and carried on growing further still. Both of the Hatchers being reasonably intelligent people, it was also a mystery why one of their children seemed to be so much slower than either of the others, who came long one year and two years after him, respectively. While his parents had high hopes for their daughters and their future careers given their impressive grades, they loved Dewey every bit as much. He may have been the black sheep of the family, but he fitted right in. The made it so.
Realising early on that their son wasn’t gifted with the brightest mind, the Hatchers knew it was important to instil in him the proper values and manners, and went about shaping him into a good, honest person. They never showed disappointment at his grades because they knew he was trying his best, and they made sure to praise his achievements when they came in the form of sports at school. They didn’t even question when, at age six, around about the age of his mysterious height boost, he also seemed to rise in physical strength substantially. Before long he was the strongest child in the class, then he was stronger than his parents, and then he proved himself stronger than adults who had set records with their feats. Recognising that their child could be perceived as odd, or even a freak, they tried to keep this quiet, and tried to teach him to control his abnormal abilities as best he could.
The sport that Dewey took the strongest liking to was basketball. His peculiar height made it a simple task to reach a net, and his strength allowed him to flick a ball in from across the playing area without even trying. He was quickly noticed by the school’s team and before he knew it he was playing with them against rival schools. It was during one of these big games, attended by an audience of many proud parents and supporters, that Dewey, aged 12, slipped up. Literally. In front of a crowd of a couple of hundred onlookers, the gangly pre-teen tripped over his laces and sprawled to the ground, accidentally pushing out against a nearby kid as he flailed and sending the youngster flying into the crowd. Luckily the boy only suffered minor injuries, but the crowd was outraged by this, and their shouting and screaming greatly upset Dewey, who promptly punched a hole in the wall of the gym and fled the scene.
Luckily the townsfolk were much too scared of the freak’s power to take any action or go to the house where he lived. The temporary reprieve from the panic gave the family time to fret about what was going to happen to them and to their son. The next day they received a visit from a lady who explained that she was a teacher at a special place for people like their son, and that they would be glad to accept him to the Academy. Julie and Max were hesitant at first, but they eventually decided that it was what was best for Dewey, and although Dewey didn’t want to leave his parents, he was persuaded with the help of a shiny object.
