Ramona emerged from the water, sitting on the edge of the pool for a moment as she caught her breath and leaning back on her hands, quickly pulling her goggles from her face so that they rested around her neck. She'd been going for well over an hour already, and her skin had started to wrinkle on her fingers- not the most attractive side effect to her favourite sport. The chlorine in the water played havoc with her hair, too; but it was worth the trouble anyway.
Swimming was her escape when home was getting too much for her. A never-failing way to get her out of the house for a few hours, and she could be alone. Even if there were other people in the pool, it wasn't like anyone ever spoke to each other. People stayed in their own lanes and minded their own business for a while, and it was something Ramona was grateful for when she needed some peace. The best swimmer she most certainly wasn't, but she was able enough and found it far more worthwhile than any other sport she'd tried before. The swim team at her school clashed with her part-time job, but as far as her father knew she was part of it. He didn't ask why they were never competing, and she didn't have to make anything else up to cover her tracks.
The teenager kicked her feet under the water a little, watching the ripples silently, bored and debating with herself whether it would be better to just shower up and go home, or waste more of her time in the water, swimming lengths.

Jake Mathew Farrows---------------- [&]Jake bit his lip as he stood in the pondering what he should do. It wasn't as busy as it normally was in the male change room but it didn't stop Jake from being paranoid that someone might walk in and start yelling at him for going to PA. Jake took a deep breath, no one would know just by looking at him that he didn't live in town. Jake made up his mind and quickly opened up his small bag to reveal his favorite pair of swim trunks, they were a dark grey with faded swirls on them. Jake couldn't remember the last time he went swimming, he knew he wanted to because the gym was getting pretty boring and he needed some cross training to keep his body in shape. Jake pulled off his pants quickly and blushed as he looked around, glad no one was around currently. His body was the reason he came all the way to St. Michael's to swim, he wouldn't be caught dead so exposed at Power.
[&]Jake quickly changed into his trunks, he disliked the idea of people seeing him let alone see him naked. He was pretty relieved when no one came in and witnessed his quick change. Jake peered into his bag and pulled out his goggles and pulled them over his head and rest around his neck. Jake turned slowly to where the strong scent of chlorine wafted to him and clearly lead to the pool deck. Jake grabbed the sides of his shirt and pulled it off over his head slowly, trying to somehow absorb the warmth it had given him. Jake stood in the desolate change room shiver slightly as he tossed his shirt onto his small pile of clothes in his bag.
[&]Jake wasn't tank or anything but he had a pretty nice body... scratch that, he had a super nice body from all the sports he did. Jake refused to admit to himself that he was pretty hot and a total eye candy even though every girl at power gawked at him. Jake hunched his shoulders a little to try and hide his body a little bit, only to make his seem even more awkward. He refused to look down at himself but he knew what others would see. His smooth pale body would be an eye sore if Jake had anything to say about it. Jake sighed and lumbered his way to the pool deck dreading the moment when someone would notice him wearing next to nothing or scream out freak.
[&]Jake could taste the chlorine as he emerged on the pool deck, unsure if he should run and jump into the pool so no one would notice him or if he should try and play it cool and stealth his way into the pool. Jake shuffled a little farther feeling the tiles scrape gently against his big bare feet. Jake raised an arm to rest at the back of his neck, a comforting position which he normally resorted to when he felt a little... or a lot awkward. Jake let his hair down today since he didn't want any hair gel to get into the pool. It effortlessly swept across his face in a shaggy mess. Jake scanned the pool and cringed as he scratched the back of his neck spotting many people swimming. Jake saw eyes on him, and more female eyes on his raised bicep, he blushed quickly and put his arm by his side and walked to the edge of the pool and took a seat so his legs dangled over the side of the pool. He cringed as it was cold and also wished he had just went to the gym like he normally did. He spotted a girl playing with some ripples in the water. He smirked but kept his head down as he cleared his throat to speak. "I can never look at ripples the same after physics." He said mostly to himself as he reminisced on the stupid sounds and waves unit in grade eleven. He felt kind of weird talking at a pool as he was half naked but he figured she probably didn't even hear him. Jake contemplated just jumping in but after feeling the cold water he didn't want to know how cold it would feel on his private parts.

Still debating with herself if it was worth hopping back into the water for a little while longer, Ramona turned to people-watching instead. It was as good a way to pass time as anything else, and she'd sort of grown accustomed to it- it was the kind of thing that came in handy when you were trying to track down a story. Not that she was expecting to uncover some great scandal here in St. Michael's sports centre; it was merely habit for the teen to stick her nose in other people's business, even if it was discrete.
There was a woman with her two sons across in the smaller children's pool, trying and failing to teach them to swim. All the kids were interested in was splashing each other, apparently. Ram couldn't help but smile a little as she forced herself not to laugh, turning her attention to someone else instead. The group of giggling teenage girls crowded around the bottom of the main pool, who had been gossiping about things since they'd arrived and swam no distance at all, which made Ramona wonder exactly why they'd bothered coming here in the first place. She recognised them from around her school, but could only remember one name.
Her attention then turned to the same thing that had captured theirs; a male who'd arrived at the poolside. His appearance pretty much screamed 'jock' to her, blonde and muscular. He was one she didn't recognise, and she sat wondering if he was actually a student at her school or not. Ramona frowned a little, trying to place him and failing. Now a senior, she knew the faces at Michael's, even if the names escaped her in the end, but she did not know this face. It was possible he'd graduated a few years ago, she reasoned.
Her trail of thought was interrupted as she heard someone talking, and she glanced back over, finding the guy sitting across from her, feet dangling in the water as her own did. "I'm sorry?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "What happened in physics?" Inwardly, she wondered exactly what kind of conversation starter that was. Unless he hadn't been trying to make conversation, in which case Ramona had just created a slightly awkward situation by responding. She was accustomed to not talking at the pool; her time was spent in the water, blissfully blocking most of the noise around her. Conversations at the poolside? Not something she did.
She could just jump back in, she reasoned. Act like nothing had happened and keep on swimming until she was ready to hit the showers and leave. Rude, yes, but it avoided any stilted conversation. Unfortunately, her mouth ran away with her before she could get back into the water. "Are you here to swim, or what?" she asked, noticing his hesitation.
Ooc;; not at all! <3

Connor wasn't having the best of days. He was late for class and had gotten another lecture about punctuality, that always brightened his mood. He decided afterward that he should probably get away from the situation, ditch the school, his apartment, anything to do with powers and take a look at how the other half of the city lived. After a quick Internet search he found that there was a pool nearby the was open to the public and Connor had always enjoyed swimming, he loved the feeling of just floating away as long as he didn't spread out it wasn't too bad. One replaced pool filter is enough. It was harder now with his powers but he could still manage if he tried. Worst case he could always turn them off for a time. Get more in touch with his humanity.... Pfft like that would happen. Connor packed a pair of board shorts and a towel into his backpack and set off to explore the town. The town was not as straightforward as the map had lead him to believe and he got turned around a few times but made his way to the pool eventually. It was a nice place, and Connor was appreciative of its availability. He headed into the change room and was pleased to discover it was empty. "Cool, I don't have to use a stall this way. I wouldn't want to scare any of the poor townies..." Connor concentrated for a moment, and his clothing disassembled into the tiny parts of his whole that they were before being absorbed back as his skin. He retrieved his blue and black patterned shorts and donned them before heading out into the pool area. He was glad to not have been recognized so far, but being new helped with that. As he exited the change rooms he took a look around. He saw a few people here and there, mostly people around his age probably students at St. Micheals. He saw an athletic guy who seemed familiar... He probably went to Powers, who was talking to a girl he didn't know. He looked boring... but the girl... she had potential. Connor was loathe to do it, but he willed a small part of him to move within earshot of the two as he himself moved to the diving board. I wonder what they are talking about... Well I'll soon know." He got up and the diving board and decided he would start with a classic: The Cannonball. The board sagged a bit under his extra weight and he took a few practice hops before bouncing as high as he could up and off the board. With the extra mass he carries aiding in the fall, the splash made was equally spectacular. It served another purpose though. It was a simple distraction. The gear he had separated rolled quietly along the poolside, stopping by the girl. It was very disorienting seeing and hearing from two sources but Connor could manage as he sank to the bottom of the pool.

Jake Mathew Farrows---------------- [&]Jake couldn't help but stare at the ripples that lapsed over the edge of the pool. He shivered as he continued to think of the stupid physics unit, the only reason he stopped was because he could feel the beginnings of a head ache. Jake looked up from the mesmerizing water and at the girl who he had somewhat talked to. She clearly had bin swimming as she had an almost prune like wrinkle on her fingers, Jake smirked slightly thinking that her fingers looked like really cute prunes. He was unsure how to respond to her comment since he was unsure if he wanted to go in or not.
Jake made up his mind quickly and raised an eyebrow in mock question. "What do you think?"
[/i] He asked as he dipped his hand into the cold water and tried to splash her. It wasn't the biggest splash but it was a decent sized splash which dissipated mid air an appeared to rain around her. It was nothing compared to the splash that he had witnessed a couple minutes earlier of a teenage boy jumping into the pool. Jake was unsure if he actually hit her but he did slip into the pool quickly. It was colder than he expected so after submerging himself under the water he came back up to the surface taking in a gasp of the warm chlorinated air. He flicked his hair out of his face and wiped his face with his hand. Jake exhaled deeply as he started doing some eggbeater to keep himself afloat. He let his hands sail smoothly across the water effortlessly. jake moved closer to the edge of his pool so he could cling to the edge "It is a little cold." He said as he rose a little higher out of the water trying to cling to the warmth of the air. ---------------- [/blockquote][/blockquote] [x] Words:313[x] Status:FINISHED[x] Tag:Ramona, Connor[x] Outfit: NEXT TO NOTHING[x] Notes:BAD POST! Ramona watched the teenager cannon-ball into the pool, and rolled her eyes as he caused a pretty big splash upon impact. Whether or not he had been trying to make it seem impressive, she didn't know. Before she had chance to mutter some kind of comment under her breath, she had been splashed with water, and scowled for a moment, before laughing. "Mature, really." She'd always thought splashing people in the pool to be a little strange once you were past the age of twelve. Like there should be something better to do.
Watching him jump in, she laughed again when he emerged quickly, complaining about the temperature. "You'll get used to it quick enough." she offered as some kind of optimism, hopping back into the pool herself in such a way that the boy was intentionally hit with water. "Something tells me you're not much of a swimmer, though." the teenager mused. The boy seemed a little awkward around the water, and if he wasn't used to the kind of temperature they kept the pool at chances were he hadn't used it much.
Kicking her legs to keep herself afloat, Ramona leaned on the side of the pool. Part of her wondered why she was trying to keep this conversation up at all. Poolside conversations weren't comfortable, it was almost like an unwritten rule for her. She pulled her googles from around her neck to sit them in her hair, keeping them fairly dry and stopping the water from filling them, rendering them useless.
She let herself sink further into the water, sighing happily. Strange as it may have been, she was glad to be back in the pool, weightless and relaxed. A few more lengths were definite, she told herself, providing that she and the other teen stopped talking soon enough. He didn't seem all that bad though, and so far she was kind of enjoying the company.

Connor was mildly amused by the pairing. The girl seemed nice and the guy... ehh. Connor could use some new friends in this part of the world and he hadn't made any at Powers yet. He decided to play it cool, swimming casual laps and gradually making his way closer. He really was a good swimmer and had spent a lot of time swimming at his old high school and he would visit the ocean every chance he could get. He hadn't realized how much he missed it. Since his powers manifested Connor had been avoiding large concentrations of water for fear he would sink or worse, rust... That would be hard to explain in his letters back home Hello Mom, hello Father I went swimming and rusted today... How've you been? I'm kinda stiff and not so shiny...Yeah that is so not a conversation I want to have... He thought to himself, Now how can I approach these two? Hmmm that could work... Connor got up and out of the pool, and willed a chain to form around his neck. It was of a simple Gaelic design and clearly had a piece missing from the center. He then willed the gear by the pairing to change and match the design on the chain. He hoped that his friends-to-be wouldn't notice the change and he could continue his plan. After toweling off he feigned confusion and fear and began a frantic search, after a few moments of 'desperate' searching he walked over towards Ramona and Jake. " Hi I'm Connor, he said trying to make his heavy Irish accent intelligible, I've lost a part of my necklace and I'm wondering if either of you might have seen it. It's about yea big and silverish. It used to belong to my grandfather and it's really important that I find it." He said as he made a small circle with his hands. So far so good..[/color]

Jake Mathew Farrows---------------- [&]Jake opened his mouth while pretending to be offended. He knew he wasn't the strongest swimmer but he was decent enough. He could be a great swimmer if he tried but he hated pools. It was way to bright and Jake wasn't allowed to wear his sunglasses without being stared at like lunatic. He wasn't a big fan of being half naked either, or having to be scarred for life by old men in speedos. Jake shook the image from his mind but not before shivering slightly at the sight of the wrinkley men. Jake grabbed the edge of the pool and hung off the side of it to talk to the apparently professional swimmer. After glancing at the redhead Jake decided he had to prove his swimming skills somehow, clinging to the edge of the pool was not the way to do it though. He pushed off slightly and continued to stay afloat as his legs made inward circles. Jake cursed himself mentally for coming over to the pool to begin with, he was swamped with homework at Power's Academy and he couldn't help but wish he was wearing more clothes. Preferably clothes that didn't expose most of his body.
"I am swimming just fine so far!"
[/i]He argued with a big smile on his face. "Give me ten more minutes and then we will see if I am drowning yet."[/i]He joked slightly. He wasn't sure what he should be doing at the moment so he conitnued to stay above the water to prove he wasn`t a horendous swimmer. Jake just realized that he didn`t know her name, and she did not know his. Introducing himself would probably be a good start so he cleared his throat and stated his name. "Jake."[/i] Jake smiled slightly before cursing at himself mentally wishing he didn't sound like such a caveman. It was clear Jake didn't really talk to others much, usually he just chilled in the back of a group and nodded or grunted when it was expected. He sighed slightly wishing he wasn't such a dumb ass. He was glad someone came over to interrupt them. Most people would be angered by it but Jake was thankful for the intrusion. "Hi I'm Connor, I've lost a part of my necklace and I'm wondering if either of you might have seen it. It's about yea big and silverish. It used to belong to my grandfather and it's really important that I find it."[/b][/i] Jake frowned slightly. He glanced at the Irish boy's necklace which obviously lacked a part and was sad he couldn't help him. Jake shrugged slightly before he offered his apologies. It was then that he realized that his face seemed somewhat familiar. Jake couldn't really place where he had seen the boy but he was sure he had seen him before, probably recently. He knew the boy wasn't from town since Jake rarely left Power's Academy but Jake didn't ever recall seeing the boy at Power's. He could have been new but Jake ruled it out since there were rarely ever new kids at Power, especially teenagers. Jake realized he was hesitating to answer him. He responded kinda half heartedly. "Sorry man, haven't seen it."[/i] ---------------- [/blockquote][/blockquote] [x] Words:695 coded[x] Status:done[x] Tag:Ramona, Connor[x] Outfit: NEXT TO NOTHING[x] Notes:I promise I will post better after this! Pretending to consider this, the girl was silent for a moment. "Ten minutes, deal." she answered with a laugh. "But if you do start drowning, I don't think I'm strong enough to pull you back up." the teen added, sticking out her tongue. She was hardly a complete weakling, but doubted she'd be able to pull the guy to safety without a lot of difficulty. And possibly a miracle thrown somewhere into the mix.
When he introduced himself, she suddenly came to the same realisation he apparently had- they hadn't bothered to introduce themselves up to that point. "Ramona." she said simply, nodding once. Ramona opened her mouth to say something else, but hearing someone else speak, she turned her attention to the boy who had wandered over, interrupting the conversation. He had lost a part of a necklace, which looked pretty intracite and valuable.
Ramona frowned as Jake apologised, telling him that he hadn't seen it. The thing had to be around somewhere, unless it had fallen into a filter, in which case it was probably not coming back. Pulling her goggles over her face, Ramona pushed herself down into the water, eyes darting around the floor of the pool quickly. Spotting something shiny, she surfaced again for a moment to inhale, and then plunged to the bottom of the pool. After a moment or two of struggling against the force trying to push her back out of the water, she grabbed it, then let herself float to the surface again.
"This it?" she asked between pants for breath, holding her palm out with the small, silver metal piece in the center. It looked about right to her, but if it wasn't what the boy was looking for, she hadn't seen anything else down there. With her free hand, she pulled her goggles back to the top of her head, blinking a few times as her eyes adjusted to the change in light.

Connor was glad that neither of them had seen the gear change, it would have be awkward to try to explain what was going on, especially since he was not supposed to be off campus... He guess it was because it somehow got knocked into to pool without him really noticing. It was also somewhat surprising that the girl was the only one of the two to try and help him. She had almost immediately dived into the pool to try and find it, 'Well that's a wee bit different,'he mused. 'I didn't think either of them would actually look for it...' He turned to Jake while Ramona was underwater and spoke. "Don't take this the wrong way or anything.... but are you from Power's?"Just then Ramona surfaced, with the part of him in hand. She had dived to the bottom of the pool, resurfaced, and dived again to help a complete stranger... A welcome oddity for someone like him. She was gasping a bit but held out the missing piece. "That is indeed it!" He exclaimed, taking the piece and snapping it into place. "I can't thank you enough, Ramona was it? If I can do anything for you don't ever hesitate to ask. I owe you one." He turned to watch Jake's slightly labored swimming, "Well I could always help you stop him from drowning, he doesn't look like the strongest of swimmers..." Connor laughed quietly, he did not want to offend someone he just met but making fun of him. Connor sat down next to Ramona on the outside of the pool. As he moved to do so, he felt different... kinda stiff. 'Well that answers the question about the rusting theory. No more water for me today...'

Jake Mathew Farrows---------------- [&]Jake chuckled slightly as Ramona stuck her tongue out at him. He couldn't help but stick his out as well, not even caring if he looked like he was twelve. Jake was surprised when she dove under to try and look for the guys necklace but Jake was still hung up on the fact of his familiarity. Jake slowly watched as Ramona dived down to the bottom of the pool, the water casting a somewhat bluish shadow across her skin making her look unearthly. She almost looked like some kind of fish, amazed at her ability to swim. Jake was snapped out of thoughts when the boy who remained at the surface of the water asked a question that astonished Jake and somewhat proved his thoughts were right.
"Don't take this the wrong way or anything.... but are you from Power's?"
[/b][/size] Jake almost forgot to keep doing his egg beater as his ears dipped bellow the water momentarily. He didn't know what to say, if this boy wasn't from Power and Jake admitted where he went to school Jake would probably have to leave and get back before too many questions were asked. On the other hand what if the boy went to powers as well? Jake tread water for a moment and double checked if Ramona had surfaced yet. She had grabbed ahold of something and was on her way to resurface. Jake simply nodded slightly, unsure what else to do. What if Jake hadn't gone to power and this boy had asked him that, that would have been way more awkward than Jake felt now. It didn't matter at the moment since Ramona resurfaced and gave the boy his necklace piece back. and they exchanged a couple phrases Jake didn't really hear since he had tuned them out slightly. Eric couldn't help but be a little offended by Connor's comment about him possibly going to powers. Jake shook his head slightly as he tried to focus himself back on the conversation, which proved his timing was quite bad apparently. Just as he grasped the conversation he heard Connor's snide remark about Jake possibly drowning and Connor would save him. Jake rolled his eyes over dramatically as he cleared his throat to comment. "One day when I'm an olympic swimmer I will shove it both your faces."[/i]Jake couldn't help but smile at his own joke, there was no way he would ever become an olympic swimmer, let alone just a competitive swimmer. ---------------- [/blockquote][/blockquote] [x] Words:414[x] Status:done[x] Tag:Ramona, Connor[x] Outfit: NEXT TO NOTHING[x] Notes:I am sorry I took so long :( another sucky post!
