( P O W E R ) Bone Manipulation: this is the physical power to reshape, control, and rapidly grow one’s own bones for a variety of effects. The most common usages are creating simple bone spikes that can be used as weapons or picking instruments, though with a degree of control, much more complicated structures and shapes can be formed. Bones that extend through the skin can be broken off and used as separate objects, and the bones generated can vary in density – being as hard as diamonds or as brittle and light as bamboo. The higher end of what Donnie can achieve with this power is creating a suit of bone ‘armor’, which consists of plates covering his entire body. As he can fully control the growth of his bones, he can also quickly and easily mend broken or fractured bones in his body. By adding layers of bone under his skin he can make his skeleton denser and harder to inflict injury upon.
There are serious limitations to this power, however. For one, removing bones regularly means he has to keep his calcium levels up by consuming more dairy products than the average person, though the less the power is used, the less consumption is needed. Secondly, although the growing of the bones itself causes no pain, bones piercing the skin causes great pain. As such, creating the bone armor suit causes agony that will be felt for long after the incident. Although Donnie’s body also has a natural mechanism to stop bleeding when skin is broken from the inside, and heal the cuts and tears caused, the healing process can take a considerable amount of time, depending on the situation and the amount of damage that has been inflicted.

( L I K E S ) Donnie has a fair fondness for teaching, otherwise he wouldn’t do it. He doesn’t think there are many feelings more satisfying than helping a child in a way that will aid them for the rest of their life. He values respect, honesty, but above all the bravery to be different and stand out from the crowd. In his spare time he enjoys going for walks, and is often seen on his evening strolls through St Michaels. He likes reading mystery novels, and is in the process of writing one, though this is something he keeps to himself. Although he doesn’t play an instrument, he also enjoys music, though his tastes seem somewhat outdated. He used to enjoy playing football, but he hasn’t played in ages and has much less interest in watching it. His favourite weather is when it’s raining and sunny at the same time, as it seems peaceful to him.
( D I S L I K E S ) Donnie values his peace and quiet, the equilibrium of every day life. That’s not to say that he likes being bored, but disruptions tend to put him on edge. He doesn’t like mixing with large crowds of people by the same logic, and so usually stays away from crowded bars, and isn’t much fun at parties. He dislikes when he has trouble working with a student and helping them to control their power, especially if it is causing them difficulty, as he always feels like its his fault. He hates travelling long distances, which comes from having to when he was a child.
( S T R E N G T H S ) As a requirement of his job, he has extremely good control of both his power and his emotions. His patience and understanding help him work with students, and his dedication to the job allows other staff members to see him as reliable. He is physically in good shape, in case he ever had to fight (something that he neither encourages or enjoys). He is also good at thinking on his feet at a moment’s notice..
( W E A K N E S S E S ) He has very little knowledge about what is going around him if it doesn’t directly concern him. While this is founded out of a lack of desire to hear gossip between students, it also means he isn’t very up-to-date with current affairs and other things that may affect him and the school. It doesn’t take much to shake his confidence in himself. His fondness for peace could be seen as a reluctance to take physical action when it is necessary. Similarly, he often over thinks or overanalyses situations.
( H O B B I E S / H A B I T S ) His constant consumption of dairy products (mainly milk) has become a fact of day-to-day life for him, and although it might seem strange to people just meeting him, to him it’s as normal as the average human body needing water to survive. Although he isn’t obsessive in his time-keeping, he does have a certain order to his life that he tends to keep to, such as getting up at a certain time and taking his evening walks at a specific time. When talking to others, whether a student or a teacher, he is always perfectly polite, believing that manners go a long way.
( F E A R S ) Above all Donnie fears rejection, especially after being divorced by his wife. Although he’s now in a place where he can be accepted for who he is, this is a fear that has been planted in him too deeply to just slip away. It also manifests in different ways; he hasn’t been on a date since the divorce, and even fears that his students will suddenly lose their respect for him if he isn’t careful.
( S E C R E T S ) The details of his marital life are kept a secret from all students, and most staff members too unless they explicitly ask. He keeps the fact that he at one point tried to make it as a singer a closely guarded secret too, to avoid the humiliation.
( O V E R A L L ) Donnie has always been reliable, well-mannered and responsible. He is a talented teacher, with a natural gift to get through to students, especially when it comes to their powers. He used to be very light hearted, always joking and laughing and socialising, but since he has come back to teach at Power’s Academy, he has been a lot more serious, keeping more to himself and taking his responsibilities as a staff member even more seriously. He loves his work, but sometimes he can become over-involved in it and end up spending ages in lesson-planning and thinking about how to help individual students. He doesn’t know much about how to ‘switch off’ and just have fun. He can be strict with students at times, although secretly he will sometimes admire a rule-breaker, if said rule-breaking is done for the right reasons. He tries to be fair to all students and consider each of their needs as individuals with unique abilities. He is quite liked by the students in general, but doesn’t see them much outside of class and doesn’t mention anything about his own life when he does talk to them. Although he seems to be resigned to the idea that the exciting part of his life is over, he seems equally content to live out the rest of it in peace and quiet, and this makes him feel a lot older than he is. In actual fact, beneath the scheduled days and timed activities, Donnie is actually waiting for something to break his routine and inject some interest back into his life, though even he himself is probably not aware of this.

( O V E R A L L ) Donnie’s mother and father were both young and stupid when they had him. The pregnancy wasn’t planned and the two of them didn’t intend to remain together at any point. When he was born, his father wanted to call him Mathew and his mother wanted Donald, so they gave him both so that he could decide later. The custody of him was split between them, though he spent more time with his mother since his father had more demanding work (he worked on a farm at the time). As he grew up, his mother passed on her negative views of his father to Donnie, and his father did the same about his mother, and the end result was that he wasn’t particularly fond of either of them. Since his father lived out in the country and his mother in the city, he was forced to do a lot of travelling, and that’s why, even as an adult, he dislikes it.
Donnie’s powers revealed themselves very suddenly and without warning, in a traumatic incident when he was eight years old. He had been staying with his dad for the weekend, and was out in a field playing with his father’s dog, Champ. Everything was fine until Donnie hugged Champ, and several spiky bone protrusions sprung from his body, impaling the animal. As if the physical pain of the action wasn’t enough, Champ died instantly and collapsed on top of the young Donnie, trapping him under his corpse. Due to the pain he was in, he was unable to move from the position, and was only found two hours later by his father. His father was outraged at the death of his dog, more so than he was worried about his son, and immediately sent him back to live with his mother in the city. He explained what had happened and told her that he never wanted to see him again.
His mother struggled to cope with having a child to look after full-time, at the same time as holding down a low-end job with very little pay. Over the next week or so, Donnie’s power became more and more active, and the mysterious rips that kept appearing in his skin warranted multiple visits to the local hospital, though they were clueless as to what the problem was. Then one day Mary actually witnessed her son’s power at work. She watched on as a large bone spike sprouted from his chest, before shrinking back him, leaving him rolling on the ground in pain and tears. Stunned by what she had seen, but not knowing what she could do, Mary talked to every social worker she could find, but they quickly closed for business when they heard the unbelievable claims she was making. It was in fact a few words to a friend at work that solved the problem. Unbeknownst to her, this friend of Mary’s was also a power, and recognised what she was saying. One night she came out about the whole thing and explained about a place where she could send her son to learn to control his ability. Mary was frankly more concerned with getting rid of him, and he was soon sent of to Power’s Academy to attend the Elementary School there.
Donnie grew up in Power’s Academy. He never got a visit from either of his parents, and wasn’t bothered about that either. In a place where he was accepted for who and what he was, his personality flourished and he quickly became the life of the classroom. He was popular, sporty, and yet seemed to be friends with everyone, not just a single sub-group in the school. He learned to control his power excellently, and by the time he had finished his studies he was able to pass himself off as an ordinary human. Although he was advised to be careful, he was keen to leave the Academy and go back out into the world to live his life.
While he was trying to make a career as a singer, he met a girl named Sophie Mayers, and they instantly fell in love. She knew nothing about the fact that he was a power, and he kept details of his education to himself. They dated for a few years, not feeling any need to rush, and then married when they were both at the age of twenty five. Although Donnie had by this point given up on his attempt at singing for a living, he managed a comfortable job teaching at a high school in the town in which they lived. Six more years passed, and only then did the idea of having children of their own get mentioned. At first Donnie was unsure of the idea. Remembering his childhood, he wasn’t sure if he had it in him to be a good father. However, his wife managed to restore his self confidence, and he agreed.
Trouble struck one night when the couple were out to dinner. On their way home they were jumped by a mugger, who threatened them with a gun. They were in the process of handing over any money they had on them, and although Donnie was sorely tempted to take the criminal out, he didn’t want to use his power in front of Sophie and give up the secret he had kept for so many years. But then the mugger grabbed Sophie a little to roughly, and that sent Donnie off. Without thinking about what he was doing, he impaled the mugger through the shoulder using a carefully aimed bone spike from his arm, pinning him to the wall.
Needless to say, Sophie was more than a little alarmed by the turn of events. Later, Donnie was forced to explain everything – what he was, where he went to school. Although Sophie loved him, she wasn’t able to cope with the new information. She insisted that he was a different man from the one she thought she knew, and it ended in a sad divorce.
Donnie was crushed by the betrayal of the one person in the world he thought he could trust completely. For days he moped around, unsure of what to do with himself, his faith in companionship shattered. Then he realised that his ‘gift’ had been the thing causing him trouble and pain throughout his life, and the only place he was ever truly comfortable was where it didn’t matter – Power’s Academy. It occurred to him that there were other kids out there, even now, that would find themselves in the same position that he was in, and that he could help them avoid it. He returned to Power’s Academy at the age of thirty-one, and was offered a post as the Power Control class teacher, which he gladly accepted.
( S A M P L E P O S T ) Asher removed his hand briefly from the pocket of his jacket to pull his hood further down over his head. The streets weren't exactly swamped with people, but being around any amount of humans usually put him on edge. It never used to be like that. He wondered if it was due to spending so much time with Magneto and his scene. Well, it was Asher's scene too now, since he'd relinquished membership in the Royal Flush. And it was going pretty well.
He hadn't been on any really important missions yet. He'd just been sent from place to place to check up on mutants and acquire information. He hadn't complained at how the tasks were boring, and that a kid could do them, because he knew that when the real fight started, he'd be there on the front lines alongside Magneto himself. He was just laying the ground work. Patience wasn't something he used to have either. He wondered just how much being around Magneto had changed him.
He glanced again over the scrap of paper in his hand that had an address in the city. Apparently the chick he was going to check up on moved around a lot, so he didn't know how Mags had pinpointed her location. He was creepy when it came to stuff like that. Asher had learned not to question it.
He turned a corner, quietly thankful to be off the main street, and found the noted address. He looked over the building: old, disused, surrounded by a perimeter of litter. A litter-perimeter.
Asher shrugged it off. He didn't care where this girl, Justin-something, lived. He just wanted to get this over and done with so he could go home.
He walked up to the nearest entrance, and looked at the door. He was going to knock, but with the condition the door was in he thought he needn't bother. Instead he pushed it inward and stepped inside.
It was dark and somehow colder than it was outside. He could hear a distant dripping and the sound of traffic outside, but not much else. For a moment, Asher thought Mags might have actually gotten it wrong for once. Still, he'd better check.
"Hey." He said, his voice echoing a little since the room was so empty. "Anyone there?"
