One…Two…Three…Fifteen… One…Two…Three…Sixteen… She thought to herself as she was working on her push-ups, helping her body stay strong in order to use her powers to the maximum. Sure, she was strong, but she had to make sure her body stayed strong. She could only hope that with age, it would also become strong, because she did not want to lose all her powers when she became of elderly age. She finished finally, sitting back slightly and looking out at the field. Thank You for a Saturday. She thought to herself as she set there. She was young to be working at a school, but she liked it. Other then being back in Alabama, this was her home. She looked down for a moment, wanting so badly to be with her family, but knowing it would only bring back memories. Her hands grabbed for the dog tags sitting on the ground and put them on. Her hair was pulled back and she wore her husband’s old PT Gear, the gray Army Shirt with a large ‘A’ on the back and the word army on the front and then the black Army shorts with the word Army written on the hem of them. She missed him so badly, but she at least had pieces of him. Why does he have to be gone? I don’t even have a body! She missed him so badly, ever morning she woke with nothing, only the memories. She use to go and look at the gravestone, knowing that below… Nothing was there… No wooden box, no body… Her husband was gone and she wanted to see her husband again. She continued to walk, not even going anywhere, just walking. [/blockquote]

Once the intense initial awkwardness of the transition from teacher to student was done- once classes began and Ben got into the swing of things and the way they worked here at Power's Academy, he found that he really enjoyed it all. It was really awkward having to be called 'Mr. Xezonatos' (he'd convinced most of the students to call him Mr. X, or even Benjamin or Ben when there were no other staff members around), but he was teaching what had been his all-time favorite subject while he attended the school as a student, and he was familiar with the way things worked. Even the long time teachers, like that Home Ec teacher who'd been around for at least a decade before he became a student at the school, was beginning to speak to him as though he was an equal and not just a little kid trying something new for kicks.
However, though he certainly didn't hate the weekdays and the normal class routines, the thrill of weekends hadn't worn off just because he was now a teacher and not a student. They were freedom. Sweet. Blessed freedom. He'd been out to St. Michael's last weekend, scouting the town and its residents. He'd even popped by the beach where he'd attended many bonfire parties in the evenings with other rebellious students as they snuck off of the school grounds for a bit of fun. The town had certainly begun to boom in the last few years, but the residents were much the same. This weekend he decided to stick close to the school, maybe get in a bit of extra practice in the Athletics area, though he didn't need it for any particular reason.
So on Saturday, he found himself up fairly early to head to the Weight's Room in the gym, and after spending a bit over an hour there, then having a shower and moving to his office to do some aimless paperwork (marking make up assignments for students who had skipped his class in the previous week), he decided to head off to the basketball court in the athletics area for some aimless shooting.
He was walking out of the front of the school when he saw an unusual outfit roaming the outdoors, even more unusual as it was worn by a woman. Of course, that had to perk his interest, so he wandered close to her, not sure of who she was yet.
"Hey, are you all ri-" he stopped as he got a look at the woman's face and recognized her. "Oh, uh... hey."

The first few weeks as a staff at the school had been odd, of course, most people who saw a young lady in the front desk of the school, thought they were either helping or in trouble, but not Annika, she was a staff and she liked to be treated like a adult. Not many her age had been married and gone through a lost so quickly. The weekdays were always full of her hunting down some students, hearing they were absent in class. She hated having to find out where they had been, but when she did, she had to report the older students to the head of the school. She was happy the weekends were here, since it gave her a chance to relax and just enjoy herself, even though she was always tempted to go down memory lane, she tried not to. As she walked some, she thought she head something and turned her head slightly when she heard the voice. ”Hey, are you all ri-"
She was probably just as shocked as he was when she saw his face. ”Ben” Her voice echoed in her head, she did not voice it at all. He knew her, she could tell by his look of surprise on his face. She could not believe it herself. He was over eighteen, why was he here? She had come here to get away from past memories, but she did not expect some of her past to still be here. ”Oh, uh... hey." She smiled slightly, tucking the dog tags under her shirt. It looked like she wore two with the tattoo around her neck that looked like dog tag chains, but she only wore one. ”Hey Benjamin.” She said, rubbing the back of her neck. She kicked her feet on the ground… Ben would have known her as happy all the time, smiling, but things had changed. She was not nearly as hyper or happy as she once was, her voice sounded almost dead to a point. She was not even sure if he knew she had been married to anyone. She knew he probably found it odd that she wore a Army Uniform Physical Training Gear, but she did not care much. Her husband had gotten her to wear them when there was a company run and she always made sure she was there. She could nearly always beat him in the run and his hurt knee never helped him. ”How ya doin’?” Her southern accent was not gone at all, which was possible a good thing. Of course Ben know this young woman, but he'd never expected to come across her after their senior year. The two had dated, back when they were young and hormonal and foolish. And though their break up hadn't exactly been terrible, it was something Ben had never been comfortable with when they were younger, even though it was his fault that their relationship had been destroyed anyway.
From the looks of things, Anni was just as surprised at seeing him around here as Ben was of seeing her. They'd only dated for a few months, but he couldn't remember her ever having a wish to be a teacher. Mind you, neither had Ben. His hopes had been on some sports related career while he travelled the world until he decided to settle down a bit. But this school was the last place he would have ever envisioned himself meeting up with his ex, if ever. Sure it was a great place to hang around, but she wouldn't just come by here randomly to check in and say hello, would she?
The pleasantries of 'how are you doing?' and such were all very nice, though the way she called him Benjamin instead of Ben did make him cringe, but Ben was in no mood to answer them when he had no explanation of why on earth she was here. So, perhaps a bit too bluntly, he went straight to the point of the question repeating itself over and over in his brain. "What are you doing here, Anni?"

She could not believe who she was seeing, before her now was a boy she thought she was long gone from, thought he would be on some big time sports team or something. She had come her to get away from bad memories to a point, but here he was, one of those bad memories. Sure, she still considered him a friend, but they had had a very bad break up and she had not expected to end the way it did. She tried to push past it, but she doubted it would completely go away. They were both surprised, so she just took in a breath and gave him a smile, but it was not a smile that she once had, it was forced and though sometimes she could bring off a good smile for the younger kids, this one was always forced.
She still wondered why he was here. Benjamin had always wanted to be a big sport star, play something and showing off. Of course, Annika could not blame the boy for wanting to show off. He was a good sports player, but she could not believe she was seeing him, right here before her. They both looked like they had been working out. She let out a silent breath, wanting so badly to use her ability, but since she did not have a lighter on her, she could not do anything. She was not here to visit, she was here to work and now it felt like high school. She was like looking at him for the first time after finding out he had betrayed her trust, but at the same time it was different. She was seeing a long lost friend from time that had been easier.
Annika spoke her own words, asking how he was doing, but it did not seem to matter, he was stunned to see her and went straight to the point. ”What are you doing here, Anni?" Hearing her old nickname was something she was not use to being back here. The last time someone had called her Anni was the day she had been told about her husband going MIA and though she tried to block the thoughts that were in her head, she looked up at him for a moment. ”I work here now… I’m the secretary.” She said, smiling the same force smile as before. ”Why are you here?” She said softly, but her voice was still dead to a point. She ran her hand over the dog tags that were around her neck. She pulled at them softly and just let her fingers run over the name of her lost husband. [/blockquote] Gah, I kept on wanting to go into first person.

She was the secretary? Seriously? Ben had been around this school a thousand times. He'd attended every staff meeting without fail (at least, he thought he had). He'd met the English teachers, the language teachers, the history teachers and the music teachers. He'd been to Miss May's office a zillion times asking for advice and guidance on things that he, as a new teacher, had no idea what to do with. Not once had he noticed Anni's brilliant blonde hair sitting at the secretary desk, and nor had he ever seen her in the halls. He was sure that he would have noticed her... but then again, he'd been more than just a little distracted since September and his meeting with Chloe Bennett... yeah, that had drained his focus from regular life a little bit, though it thankfully hadn't come true at all. It could explain his lack of focus and lack of noticing his ex.
"Eh, you know how it is. There're only so many hundreds of trips to China and Russia and France and Australia and all of those places that a guy can take before it all gets repetitive. I figured: I've seen the countries. Learned the languages. Met the people. Experienced the cultures. The only thing I've never done in any country is teach. So... here I am. The school's physed teacher." He was trying to turn their slightly tense and awkward, or at least it was to him, conversation into something a little bit more joking and enjoyable. It was impossible for Ben to go too long without telling a joke. It had always been like this. He just couldn't keep a serious conversation serious. Sometimes, though, while his mood might be good and a joke might be in good taste for him, all he'd end up doing would be to annoy others if they didn't find his humor to be funny or weren't in the mood to hear his pathetic attempts at jokes.
Speaking of moods... something was off about Anni. Sure they hadn't really been close in many years, but he knew her well enough to know when something was wrong. He didn't know if he should pry or not... "Are you feeling all right?"

Annika could see the surprise within’ his eyes. She had only just started working since the other left secretly to do some other things. She had taken the job and she was probably not leaving for a very long time. She had yet to attend any meetings and Miss May knew of the troubles she was facing. Since she was working here, she knew it would be important to tell the main woman everything. She looked around slightly for a moment, letting out a breath and trying to stay calm. Her heart was pounding against her chest and she looked at Ben for a moment. He had changed very little, but he was still handsome and kind, she could tell. ”Stop! Your are… Married.” She thought to herself as she looked down slightly. ”Eh, you know how it is. There're only so many hundreds of trips to China and Russia and France and Australia and all of those places that a guy can take before it all gets repetitive. I figured: I've seen the countries. Learned the languages. Met the people. Experienced the cultures. The only thing I've never done in any country is teach. So... here I am. The school's physed teacher." Annika smiled at the joke, which was good. Ben had not lost his humor. ”You have been further then I… Other then a few trips up the East Coast and into the Mid-West, I have only gone further west into Hawaii.” She said to him, smiling slightly at him, but it was still forced. She let out a breath and looking into his eyes. He had not changed one little bit. Maybe a bit rougher, maybe he was older, but he had not changed. ”Are you feeling all right?"” She looked at him and then down slightly, before giving another smile, though not as alive as it once had been… ”Yes… Just… Tired.” She said to him, though, it was easily not believable. She ran her hand down her shirt, the word ”Army” easy to see, along with the white on the black shorts. [/blockquote] Gah, I kept on wanting to go into first person.
